Blog 220 degrees diagonally is a place where the recipes from our grandmothers, my children's taste, a mother's (mine) concern for the family’s health, a wish for a balanced and diverse diet and a husband's addiction with meat and proteins intertwine.
220degreesdiagonally.com is a place for all who like to cook and for those who think they can't, but want to try. Or have tried already, but have hung off their aprons to soon.
I believe that cooking is one big party.
Blog 220degreesdiagonally.com is written in a simple language and completed with plenty of graphic photos for a more practical use.
It is easier to follow the recipe, when you can actually see the dish being executed through photos. The photos are so colorful and illustrative you can almost taste the food. The recipes are calling you to try them out. Also, because all the ingredients are normally available in your local grocery stores, the recipes are suitable for everyday use.
I wrote a book called Party on the Lost Island. It was created with younger cooks on my mind. It is designed so that the children can pick it up repeatedly, not just once. And every time they are able to discover something new and exciting. The book is multilayered - it's a fairy tale, a guide for a pirate's party and it's full of kid easy recipes. I mean literally, the children can prepare featured dishes themselves.
You might think your children are too young for independent cooking, but I whole-heartedly recommend that you let them try. Give them a wooden spoon and a bit of freedom and you´ll witness a true transformation.
If I had to emphasize my strongest feature regarding cooking, it would have to be ENJOYMENT. I strive for the fullness of the food, for excellent taste; for homeliness and for enjoying the food with all senses. I don't give a damn about sweet-talking in recipes and for pompous food names that nobody can even pronounce.
Practicality and usability are the center of the blog and the book, because most of all I would like to enthuse people about cooking. I want to get the message out, that everyone can learn how to cook. I want to encourage people to be creative in the kitchen, to try out the new recipes, to play with flavors. After all, the kitchen is a place for a whole family to have fun.
The proverb " A way to a man's heart is through his stomach" is not new, right? It goes for all generations!
Off course may things can go wrong when experimenting, but this shouldn't discourage you from trying again and tasting the food even if it's a bit burned, or a cake didn't rise enough, and even if you mistook salt for sugar. Cooking is fun and that is my main message.
